Penny's Postcard Posse began on Memorial Day 2006 Rounding up fabric postcards to send to the troops in Iraq for the 4th of July.

"While quilters have a history of sending quilts to soldiers, generally the quilts go to wounded soldiers and the families of fallen soldiers. We wanted to do something special for the soldiers who are out there still fighting the fight for freedom. Full size quilts didn’t seem too practical, so we decided to make tiny quilts that the soldiers could carry with them,” observed Penny Halgren, creator of Penny's Postcard Posse.

To date Penny's Postcard Posse has Rounded up the following:

  • July 4th 2006 - 139 tiny postcard greetings were sent through Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California

  • Thanksgiving 2006 - 284 postcards sent through the Air Force Base in Mountain Home, Idaho

  • Christmas 2006 - 839 postcards sent through the Air Force Base in Mountain Home, Idaho

  • Linda Lynch sends 1200 postcards to her son's unit in Iraq from Penny's Postcard Posse

  • Valentine's Day 2006 - 217 postcards sent to Canadian troops in Afghanistan through the military base in Alberta, Canada

  • Spring 2006 - 242 postcards sent to wounded troops in Landstuhl, Germany.

  • 4th of July 2007- 2173 postcards sent to Iraq
